Summary:
Under One Roof by David Gonzalez was about a girl and her family trying to make it in the U.S. but not being able to because they are illegal aliens. The girl and her family remain anonymous for the fear of being deported back to her home country of Ecuador. The girl's family consists of her, her mom and dad who are separated, and her brother. Her brother is the only legal citizen of the four because he was born in the U.S. He seems to take his citzenship for granted because he isn't going to college or supporting the family, and because he always talks about moving back to Ecuador. At a young age the girl was gifted in math and eventually went to college in New York for her accounting degree. But now despite graduating with honors she will have problems finding a job for her lack of citizenship.

Reflection:
I feel bad for the girl in the story because of the situation she is in. She has all the brains and potential in the world but she has limited oppertunities because of being an illegal alien. In the article her mom tells her that the only option she has is to marry an American man. This doesn't make sense to me because she could take the citzenship test, which would take less time and money than marrying some guy for the wrong reasons.
This article was the first instance that I've ever heard of Obama's Dream Act. I think its a good idea because it gives young illegal aliens something to strive for. I will keep checking up on this act to see if it is passed by congress. The girl is lucky though that she has smart parents who both went to college. So she is better off than most illegal families who don't have any form of education and can't afford a place to live. I liked the comic in the back, it shows what people that are pro-immigration think. It is a valid point, the native americans allowed us on their land even though we were immigrants but a lot of Americans disagree with immigration.

From LG: Your point is well taken re: her having educated parents. The plight of an illegal alien is a sad and complicated one.
